In my novel, “Bone and Blood”, a young woman, Aisling, regrets choices she has made. Is she responsible for those choices? Is she a victim or is it more complicated than that? Are her choices corrupted by ambiguity, secrecy and hypocrisy in Irish cultural life? Can we protect her healthy, erotic development when we are all trapped in cultures where personal relationships and sexuality are open to abuse by economic and ideological forces that are often hidden from us? Can Aisling gain insight into herself by sharing the story of Brigitte, an older woman, a survivor, who lives in Berlin?
