O Death, where is thy sting?

As I look South from Donegal, Knockarea in Sligo is just behind Ben Bulben. In the window, I watched a wasp die in the web of a much smaller spider and it gave me a much needed perspective on death and grief. As Handel reminds us in the Messiah, sin is the sting of Death but over 5000 years ago on Knockarea, it seems unlikely that any of their rituals involved sin. The earthen banks on Knockarea are a unique feature of the Irish neolithic period as nothing similar has been found elsewhere in Ireland. Maybe we’re just lucky it was too inaccessible for bulldozers and is now protected by its pride of place on the Wild Atlantic Way.
